Punjab Kissan Card

Interest-free card credit for small farmers to buy fertiliser and seed, run by the Agriculture Department with PITB; the Bank of Punjab issues the cards. Terms are from Cycle 1 (April 2025): check the current round. Background: an earlier Kissan Card was launched in April 2021 (PM Imran Khan); this CM Punjab version was approved in March 2024 and cards were distributed from October 2024.

Who can apply

  • Farmer owning up to 12.5 acres (Bank of Punjab Cycle 1: between 1 and 12.5 acres, subsistence farmers)
  • Land record available with the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA)
  • Mobile SIM registered in the farmer's own name against their CNIC (PMD verified)
  • Valid CNIC; age 18 or older, with no maximum age (Bank of Punjab Cycle 1)
  • Acceptable credit history under the bank's risk criteria (Bank of Punjab Cycle 1)

How to apply

  1. Register by SMS: write pkc, a space, then your CNIC number, and send it to 8070 (as published on the Punjab Portal)
  2. Your registration is verified digitally against PLRA land records, NADRA, PMD and eECIB
  3. If verified, the Bank of Punjab issues your CM Kissan Card
  4. Buy fertiliser and seed from authorised, registered dealers; the Agriculture Department publishes the dealer list for each district
  5. Repay, or return unused funds, within the 6-month card validity plus the 1-month grace period

Benefits

Interest-free loans from sowing to harvesting for agricultural inputs only (fertiliser, seed). Up to Rs 150,000 per season, capped at Rs 30,000 per acre (5 acres counted); minimum Rs 30,000. Each card is valid for 6 months, with a 1-month grace period after that for repayment or returning funds. Free SMS notifications for transactions. The first round was for 500,000 farmers on a first-come, first-served basis, with an estimated cost of about Rs 9.5 billion per season (Punjab Portal).
