Allama Muhammad Iqbal
Muhammad Iqbal was a poet, philosopher and politician from Sialkot, Punjab, widely honoured in Pakistan as the national poet (Shair-e-Mashriq). In his December 1930 presidential address to the Muslim League at Allahabad he called for a consolidated Muslim state in north-western India. He died in Lahore on 21 April 1938.
